Our teaching starts at $29, and ahead of that sits a trial lesson that is free. The figure is an opening rather than a flat rate, since a beginner and a singer preparing a recital piece are not buying the same lesson. Liberal is a town that prints its terms carefully when it prints them, and we do the same: one number to begin from, and a trial ahead of it that costs you no money. The figure does not slip back upward once you have agreed it.
The day you picked moves and the work does not restart. The Baker Arts Center allows longer residency stays by request, which is a house with room in its calendar, and a SIRIUS booking is rebooked in the same spirit. Granted that a missed date sets things back, the coach who answers carries what has yet to settle into the next lesson. The work runs on from the point it stopped.
There is no age bracket on a SIRIUS lesson. The college describes its Chorus courses as open admission to college students, which is an open door with a condition on it, and its Applied Music courses require a student recital performance. Children and adults both start from the song they turned up with. The lesson sheds the term and keeps the singer.
An hour is the usual span. The clearest published comparison in town runs the other way: the college measures its private instruction in credits and requires a recital at the end, while the Baker Arts Center measures a music residency in weeks and asks for one or two public events. Both are commitments with an outcome fixed in advance. A SIRIUS lesson goes around both, since what you take from it is settled while it runs.
Yes, and it is the same lesson. The recording you keep, the drills and the written summary sit in one workspace, so the next lesson resumes at the point the last one reached. The Baker Arts Center at 624 N. Pershing Ave. runs three residency tracks, and what each visitor receives is settled by their trade. A visual artist is given private housing and studio access. A musician or songwriter is given private housing and a workspace. A cook or baker is given private housing, kitchen access and a weekly supplies budget. Singing lessons in Liberal, Kansas start where the package is cut to the craft.
Two of those three tracks are described by the house as short-term, and the cooking track alone runs a month. The music residency sets its own length at generally one week, with longer stays considered by request, and asks for one or two public-facing events in return, in the form of a live concert, a songwriting workshop or an artist talk. Seward County Community College publishes five dated events for its Humanities and Fine Arts area. The Winter Concert is set for Friday, December 4, 2026 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the SCCC Showcase Theater, and the Fall Student Recital on Monday, December 7, 2026 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the same room. The Annual Coffeehouse Poetry Night is set for Saturday, February 20, 2027 in the Hobble Academic Building main hallway at 1801 N Kansas Ave. The Spring Concert on Friday, April 30, 2027 and the Spring Student Recital on Monday, May 3, 2027 are both listed against the whole campus rather than a room.
The Chorus courses at Seward County Community College carry one credit each and are described as open admission to college students, with no audition named. Applied Music in voice is private instruction and carries a surcharge the catalog announces without pricing, while the same catalog describes piano instruction without that sentence. One room under that same roof falls outside the staged exchange altogether: at The Kitchen the Baker Arts Center asks for ideas for cooking classes and says to call, promising to handle the hard part while you show up and teach. No deadline, no form and no figure attached. No condition comes due from a singer here before the first lesson.
The city bus prints one window for the day and after that a position in the hour that repeats through it, so the Baker Arts Center sits at :50 on the Orange line and the college at :15 on Blue, while each line starts at :00 from City Hall and ends there at :55. A schedule built that way tells you the shape of an hour and leaves the day to you. The day you picked gives ground inside the week without leaving it.
The residency application at the Baker Arts Center asks a musician to name the events they will give back. Between a commission and a lesson lies the whole difference, and this page is about the second. A SIRIUS booking breaks rank with the first and asks for a name and a time.
What Liberal gives a visitor is decided by the trade they arrive with, and the terms are printed track by track: studio access for the painter, a workspace for the musician, a kitchen and a supplies budget for the baker. The Baker Arts Center puts up to $500 toward travel on its music track and $20 per day for each band member, against one or two public events. Ours does not vary by craft.
