This town prints the frame before the content: four announced Opera House productions of which one has no title yet, and eleven trustees appointed by the Mayor of Waterville for a four year term. Beneath that habit, SIRIUS Music School leaves out the record of the sitting until there is a sitting to record. A paid lesson in Waterville begins at $29, with the one before it unpriced and free. You pay for a session that happened. In one direction the notice names a fare and steps aside from the clock; in the other it prints the clock and drops the fare.
The first session is a description. Beneath that description, SIRIUS Music School zeroes in on what you take into the next one. You sing something familiar; what returns is a plain reading of the voice, with one passage marked as the place to start. Tone-deafness, as a verdict, nearly resolves into pitch matching or the crossing between registers, and both can be taught. The Colby Chorale hears a range test rather than a verdict, and the coach spills over into the same work accordingly.
Age is not a gate here. SIRIUS Music School lists what you are singing now, and the list carries no birth year. Six-year-olds can begin playfully, a teenager is paired with someone used to a voice in transition, and an adult out of practice since school begins at the voice of today. The Chorale at Colby takes a range test and a one to two minute excerpt. Where does a range test sort a singer?
The honest answer varies with the starting point and with the result you are after. A quieter crossing between registers, air budgeted before the phrase begins, intonation that stays up at the top: those arrive by degrees, and sooner with work in between. SIRIUS Music School picks out the morning you asked for and keeps it. Waterville sets its own deadlines by season rather than by date, with airport office times that shift in April and again in October. By the second season the first list of pieces goes quiet.
For singing, a screen lesson turns on one thing: the take is kept. The audio path favors sung tone over talk, so a held note arrives intact, and the take where a passage worked survives to the weekend. You shift the record of the sitting into the next one without carrying paper. The city line here governs what gets published on either side of it, fares inside and departures outside; our own line is simpler, since a session from $29 carries the workspace with it. By the time the workspace opens again, the earlier record gives out its summary.

Two ways out of Waterville are published, and they print different things. The KV Van of the Kennebec Valley Community Action Program runs curb-to-curb inside the city and into parts of Fairfield, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., by appointment: the KV Van names $5.00 a zone trip, $3.00 reduced, free travel for children ten and under, and a monthly pass at $100 or $60. No departure time appears on it. Concord Coach Lines, going further, names three departures and no fare. The shorter the trip, the more money and the less clock.
Concord Coach Lines stops on a college campus rather than downtown, at the Museum of Art on Mayflower Hill Drive, and its schedule effective 31 May 2026 gives one southbound departure at 11:40 a.m. and two northbound, 11:20 a.m. and 9:25 p.m. Two of the three run Fridays and Sundays in term, which puts a bus inside an academic calendar. What the notice leaves out is the fare. Concord Coach Lines rests on an academic calendar for two of its three departures.
Waterville City Hall at One Common Street keeps office times of 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, four days and no Friday, and the City Council meets on the first and third Tuesday at the City Hall Annex, 46 Front Street. Such a grid settles in advance which evenings exist. Beneath that grid, SIRIUS Music School sets out the line that drops out and names it. One voice trades places with a committee calendar, though the calendar was there first.
The Maine International Film Festival, run by the Maine Film Center, prints passes at $125 for ten films and $250 for full access, and spreads its 29th edition across 10 to 19 July 2026 at 93 Main St. and 1 Common St. Money, then, and dates, but no clock time. Intonation that does not sag at the top, breath planned before the phrase begins, the crossing up into head voice, reading a part off a sheet you have not seen: those carry no ticket. The morning you asked for does not fan out into a festival pass.
SIRIUS Music School asks for what you take into the next one. The Waterville Public Library at 73 Elm Street opens 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday to Friday, to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, and to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, which makes Tuesday the single window past five. Ours works in the opposite direction: one coach, a written record of the sitting, a free first lesson, and paid lessons from $29. The library states that its times will change and expand, and what happens beyond that statement cuts across a plan built on somebody else's evening.
The lesson in front of you catches the record of the sitting before the sound has left the room. Admission to the Colby College Chorale runs through an application path rather than a date: a candidate books an appointment in the director's office, room G40 of the Gordon Center, and brings a vocal excerpt of one to two minutes, accompanied or not, for a vocalization and a range test. Our own path shifts that procedure onto a screen, where each session is recorded and the exercises stay beside it. The record of the sitting holds out against the memory of it.
The Waterville Opera House sits inside the City Hall building at 1 Common Street and runs as a division of Waterville Creates under Michelle Sweet. Across the street the Paul J. Schupf Art Center at 93 Main Street opened on 17 December 2022, and its three Maine Film Center cinemas seat 111, 41 and 21. The Gordon Center on Mayflower Hill Drive holds the Colby music department and a 300-seat hall. The Universalist Unitarian Church at 69 Silver Street worships at 10:00 a.m., where Harry Vayo directs The UU Singers.
Waterville Regional Airport at 2 LaFleur Road, run by the city, breaks the pattern this page is built on: it publishes neither a fare nor a departure but office times, and even those move with the season, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. from April to September and 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. from October to March. Age works no differently, since a voice keeps no season. The coach listening in swaps your current piece for a harder one once the voice is ready, whether the singer is seven or seventy. You may find a field with no scheduled service unremarkable, and it still pulls apart the pairing that holds elsewhere here.
The KV Van takes bookings by appointment, which means the passenger applies and the vehicle answers. The lesson in front of you moves over the line that drops out instead of asking you to travel to it. Add the four-day office pattern at City Hall, a council that meets twice a month, and a bus running two of its three departures in term. Why does a town stack up its application paths so carefully and print its clock so rarely?
Studio 1902, the rehearsal room on the second floor of the Schupf Art Center, was built to the exact size of the Opera House stage and reaches it by a glass-enclosed sky bridge: a room measured against another room in another building. You set down the record of the sitting yourself. Before the first session the record stands unwritten; after it the same record reverses the measurement and comes from the singer.
Inside the city line this town prints four amounts and no departure; beyond it, three departures and no amount. Beneath both notices, your coach hands over the morning you asked for. The Waterville Opera House and the Schupf Art Center stand on either side of one street, and neither prints a fare of its own. That explains why one session gathers the morning you asked for: a single coach, a written record, and a price that starts at $29.
