Our own figure measures an hour, and nothing wider than that. A lesson starts out at $29, and the hour before it is a free trial, so the arrangement gets tested before anything is paid for. Set that beside how the town prices music: Mid-Plains Community College asks $130 per credit hour for residents, the Playhouse $75.00 for an adult season membership, Fort Cody $25 for a season pass. Those buy a credit hour, a season and a summer. That starting figure buys sixty minutes with one coach, which is why no household appears anywhere in it.
The notice for those open auditions puts it about as fairly as anyone could: a song worked up in advance is welcome there without being demanded. A singer who tells you they cannot sing has often simply never had a listener whose job was to say what was happening. Your coach holds the first hour open for exactly that, and the answer is usually a named, fixable habit in the breath or the jaw.
Neither end of the range is closed. The ages you meet in North Platte belong to buildings: the Rec Center prices Youth at 3 to 18 years and Senior at 60+, and the festival choir at the end of January is built for grades 7 to 9. You name the songs you are after, and your coach says which of them are reachable now and which need the voice to settle first. A child of six and an adult of sixty-six get the same answer in different words.
The useful direction is backwards, from the date rather than from today. The Playhouse auditions for a whole season at one sitting, so the gap between an audition night and your own performance date is measured in months. SIRIUS sizes the plan to whatever your own date is. The unit you count in changes with the target: weeks for breath and tuning, months for anything that has to be drilled into a coordination. The unit you count back from is the month.
A deadline is the thing online lessons remove. North Platte Public Transit needs the ride called in by 1:00 p.m. the day before to cost $2.00, and after 1:00 p.m. no same day ride is accepted at all. Against that, a taught hour reaches you at the time you actually booked, at your own kitchen table, with no journey to plan around it. Your coach cuts in on the phrase itself, and the file is there when you sit back down. The deadline is 1:00 p.m.; the lesson has none.

The North Platte Recreation Center at 1300 McDonald Road prints Family (6 members in same household) $20.00. The North Platte Community Playhouse at 301 East 5th Street prints Family (2 Adults & 2 Students) $195.00. Fort Cody Trading Post at 221 Halligan Drive charges $5 a night for its summer series and puts an age where the other two put a household. Three houses, three prices that reach past one person, and each stops to say what it is counting: heads, composition, age.
What you pay here depends on who comes in with you. The Rec Center counts to six inside one household; the Playhouse wants two adults and two students and prices that exact arrangement at $195.00. Your vocal coach holds the hour for one person, so there is no household to declare and nothing to be counted into. The measure none of those prices reaches is a single voice, which is the one the lesson uses.
Mid-Plains Community College lists its music faculty by subject. James Meny is Adjunct Instructor - Vocal, Allison O'Neill teaches Sight-Singing & Ear Training, Carolyn Cline takes Piano, and Kristin Simpson, the Lead Music Instructor, is listed with the number (308) 535-3755. You tell a coach what you came for in the same plain way those titles do, and that sentence shapes the hour. The subject in the title is the subject of the hour.
Tuning and breath go together first: pitch that holds when the accompaniment moves, and enough air under it that the line does not shorten to fit. Stamina and text come second: the ability to sing four numbers in an evening, and the habit of getting words across a room without pushing. SIRIUS times the second pair against the first, because stamina built on shaky tuning only makes the error last longer. That second pair is the slower one, and also the pair an audience picks up on first.
A price is a statement about a unit. Mid-Plains Community College charges $130 per credit hour for residents in 2026-27, and the unit it measures is one credit hour; the Playhouse measures a season; the Rec Center measures a year. Under all of those, a SIRIUS price hears a single hour and nothing larger. You get a coach chosen against your own list of songs, and a written plan for the stretch ahead, with a free trial hour standing ahead of both. Two units, two questions, and only one of them asks how many people are with you.
The open auditions the Playhouse and the College hold together take three evenings, 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on each, and one prepared song can stand for one, two or all three productions. The recording turns that arithmetic around: the take moves with you into the days after, so the same phrase can be heard on Monday and on Thursday without anyone singing it twice. Your coach marks where the tuning slipped, and the mark is still on the file when you sit down alone. Three evenings in September is how often that audition comes round, and further nights follow in November and February. A recording comes round in each lesson you take.
The North Platte Municipal Band plays Cody Park Pavilion on Fridays at 7:30 p.m. through June and July under Lori Evans, at no charge. Fort Cody Trading Post has run its summer series since 2011 on Thursday nights from June to August, 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., with a local artist opening at 6:00 p.m. and a featured artist at 7:00 p.m. NEBRASKAland Days fills June 17 to 27, 2026, with the Viaero Summer Jam at the Wild West Arena on the 26th and 27th. The Fox Theatre opened in October 1929, carries the North Platte Concert Association's season, and has its National Register listing from May 9, 1985.
Which bracket you fall into depends on the counter you are standing at. The Rec Center sorts a day pass into Youth (3 to 18 years) $6.00, Adult (19 to 59 years) $8.00 and Senior (60+ years) $7.00. The Nebraska Choral Directors Association sorts by school grade instead and puts its North Platte festival choir at grades 7 to 9. Your coach carries none of those brackets into the hour, because the hour has one person in it and nothing to sort. The bracket exists at the register and nowhere else.
North Platte Public Transit is demand-response and door to door, with no route and no posted departure to catch. It runs Monday to Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. from 1520 North Jeffers Street, and the fare turns on a deadline: $2.00 per one-way ride if it is called in by 1:00 p.m. the day before, $4.00 if it is not, with no same day rides accepted after 1:00 p.m. You tell SIRIUS when the days have moved and the hour moves with it, without a deadline the day before. Booking is the whole of the arrangement.
The Playhouse and the College hold open auditions for the 2026-2027 musical season on September 14, 15 and 16 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the Canteen Room, and the notice says a prepared song is preferred but not required. You can read that in two directions, and both are true: nothing is demanded at the door, and something prepared will serve you better. SIRIUS sets the first hour at exactly that level. You bring what you have, and you leave knowing what your voice does with somebody listening to it.
A household can be six people, or two adults and two students - and at the door on Halligan Drive it is not a household at all, only an age. Against all three of those, the unit in a singing lesson stays at one, whoever else is in the building. A price per hour listens for that unit and for nothing around it. The figure has no space on it for anybody else.
