Singing is technique before it is talent, and technique answers to work. The first audible changes - steadier breath, a cleaner start to a phrase, a note that stops sliding - usually come after a few weeks of regular practice. How far you go from there depends on how often you practice between lessons, which is what the exercises in your SIRIUS Workspace are for.
No one is too late to begin singing: a private voice lesson lets you work on the range you already have, one-on-one, without singing in front of a group. For a child, a one-on-one lesson keeps all 45 minutes on one voice rather than on a room full of them.

Yes. Singing is a trainable skill: breath, support and intonation all answer to practice, and you need no prior experience to start. True amusia, an actual inability to hear pitch, affects only about one person in seventy, and almost nobody who believes they cannot sing turns out to be one of them. Singing lessons by state
Mishawaka High School, part of the School City of Mishawaka, runs three choirs, Concert, Treble and Chamber, along with a show choir, and its choir program welcomes all voices. All three choirs earned Gold at the ISSMA Organizational Festival on April 24, 2026. Their season continues with a Vespers Concert on December 6, 2026 and a winter concert with the choirs of John Young Middle School on December 14, 2026.
Bethel University in Mishawaka lists four vocal ensembles in its 2023-2024 catalog, among them a Concert Choir and Voices of Triumph, and teaches voice to students in its music major and minor. The choirs of three Catholic parishes, St. Monica, St. Bavo and St. Joseph, joined voices at the Epiphany Candlelight Choral Festival in January 2023, 2024 and 2025. In summer 2026 the city's free concert series ran from June 1 to August 20 at four venues in Mishawaka.
