Schedule summer delivery for early morning, let the carton sit indoors and reach room temperature before you open it, and keep spare instruments and parts out of an uninsulated garage. Indoors, keep the case clear of sunlight through a window, which works on the finish hour after hour, and pick an interior wall over the west-facing one that soaks up afternoon sun. Steinway's care guidance asks the same: protect the piano from sunlight and from air blowing off a heating or cooling vent.
