Once a year the riverfront takes over: the 2026 RiverBeat festival filled Tom Lee Park from May 1 to 3.
So why learn online in a city this full of music? The map and the clock. Memphis is spread wide, and getting from Collierville, Bartlett or Cordova to a Midtown teacher is a 30 to 45 minute crawl each way once I-240 backs up, turning a short lesson into most of an evening. Add August humidity nobody wants to idle in traffic through, plus rotating logistics and hospital shifts in plenty of households, and the fixed weeknight slot across town becomes the thing you cancel. Guitar lessons in Memphis that happen wherever your instrument already sits remove both obstacles.
Beginners start with open chords and the unglamorous work of changing between them without a gap; that clean transition separates playing from stopping and starting. A songwriter night on South Main is the opposite room: quiet, attentive, three chords and a good verse are plenty. And when a string lets go or the action fights you, Martin Music at 1659 Poplar Avenue has sold guitars and amps since 1997 and handles setups, fretwork and repairs in house, which matters more to your progress than beginners expect.
Nine-year-olds whose hands are still small. Adults who owned a guitar in college, quit at barre chords, and want another run twenty years later. Players who can busk through a set and need theory, slide, or a way out of the same three keys. No level is too early and no age closes the door.
