Yes. You need your own instrument to practice on, and SIRIUS does not supply instruments, so the guitar is something you arrange yourself. A sound used acoustic or an entry-level electric is plenty to begin with; nothing expensive is required. If you are unsure what to buy, book the trial lesson first and ask your teacher, since a nylon-string, a steel-string and an electric suit different hands and different goals. It is also worth having a shop set the action properly - a badly adjusted guitar convinces beginners the problem is their fingers.
For guitar they work remarkably well, because nearly everything a teacher needs to correct is visible: hand position, wrist angle, picking motion, where your thumb sits behind the neck.
