Asking the price of a singing lesson here gets you a semester. The NSU Music Academy publishes $340 for 30 minutes, $510 for 45 and $680 for 60, all spread across fourteen lessons a term and all due by the first week. Lessons start at $29 once the free first one is behind you. SIRIUS sets your plan down before anything at all is owed, if you would rather see it in advance.
Singing here is often open at no charge, and the university prints the words: "Admission is free." An invitation to listen is a real offer, and being listened to is another one entirely. Into that one appointment your coach listens and does nothing else -- as far as a recording of a single phrase can show what is really happening.
The NSU Music Academy sets a floor under voice at eight years old and under piano at six, and it charges the same $340 for a 30-minute slot at either age. The number describes a length; the age describes a readiness. The hour rearranges the material to suit whichever of the two you are standing on, whether the voice is eight years old or has been quiet for decades, and that is a narrower adjustment than any floor published by the NSU Music Academy.
Every figure here is a container, and a container forecasts nothing. Fourteen lessons is what the NSU Music Academy sells, five concerts a year is what the Natchitoches-Northwestern Symphony Society plays, and a hundred editions is what the Christmas Festival has reached -- all of them counts, and no count is a rate of change. Your coach carries the plan forward each time and marks what actually moved since the one before.
The Northwestern State University of Louisiana already streams its choirs on that same CAPA-LIVE address, sending one room out to many; a lesson runs the other way, carrying a single singer close enough to one pair of ears to hear the edge of a note. You name the fault you want dealt with, your coach works outward from it, and after a few sessions the screen stops being the thing you notice.

Natchitoches prints its deadlines as distances. The NSU Music Academy sells a term of fourteen lessons and says tuition is "due by the first week of lessons" -- one week measured into a run of fourteen. The City of Natchitoches Recreation & Parks Department asks for a rental request "at least two weeks prior to the event" and the balance "ten days prior to scheduled event." The Rapides Area Planning Commission, running the rural service instead of the city, takes a reservation 24 hours ahead, and as of September 16, 2026 it reports the service in Natchitoches Parish as "temporarily paused until further notice." Three carriers, three counts backward, no calendar day named anywhere. Two cases break the pattern: the same commission also names a clock instead of a gap, refusing bookings after 1:00 p.m. the day before, and the Natchitoches Christmas Festival counts forward, charging $20 for admission after 1:00 p.m. on the day itself.
The fee page of the Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts prints a yearly sum instead of a countdown: no tuition, $1,200 in required fees, and the line "Inability to pay will not prevent qualified students from attending." A sum like that tells a singer nothing about a voice. For your own material your SIRIUS coach records where the voice is now and what comes next -- as long as you sing it once so the note can be made.
The NSU Cane River Singers perform in the Magale Recital Hall at 143 Central Avenue on a Sunday afternoon at 3:00 p.m., admission free, with a livestream at www.nsu.la/CAPA-LIVE. The NSU Chamber Choir uses the same hall and the same web address on a Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. Both concerts travel further than the room; neither travels back toward one singer inside it. One hour with us requires the plan to be about your voice and nothing else, a narrower undertaking than anything ever staged in the Magale Recital Hall.
The NSU Music Academy counts its lessons and says so plainly: "There is a total of 14 lessons each term." Fourteen is an honest number and a useful one, and it says nothing about which fault gets fixed in which of the fourteen. Your coach listens for the condition first -- the breath that gives way midway along a line, the vowel that spreads as the volume rises, the entry you take early because you cannot hear the beat under it -- and then decides what lesson two is for.
A place in a room and a straight report on your own singing are two different purchases. The terms of the first are usually stated in advance here, and SIRIUS puts the terms of the second out the same way: one phrase, reworked while somebody listens, in a first hour we give away.
The Natchitoches Christmas Festival runs its music on both sides of the gate. The Kelli Roberts Band plays 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on November 21 and The Louisiana Sidemen 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on December 12, both behind the afternoon admission; the Parker James Trio plays 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on November 27 and Deep Water Rehab 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on December 26, both on days with no admission charged. SIRIUS runs the session toward the singer on a channel that holds its detail steady, so a line sounds the same through it in lesson 1 as in lesson 14.
The Natchitoches Christmas Festival runs from November 21, 2026 to January 6, 2027 in its 100th edition, with $20 admission after 1:00 p.m. at the Downtown Riverbank on five Saturdays and all day on December 5; ages 6 and under go in free, and the ticket booths take no cash. The Natchitoches-Northwestern Symphony Society, a non-profit founded in 1966, puts on five concerts a year, and its orchestra plays the Magale Recital Hall at $16.50 a seat plus online purchase fees, with season packages from $50 and two season tickets for $50 from age 65. The Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts at 715 University Parkway runs its own Chorale & Mixed Ensemble and an evening of voice, with no admission charged.

Of one booked hour the only thing required is that you turn the material over out loud, at a table in town or anywhere else you can close a room.
The City of Natchitoches Recreation & Parks Department runs a booking in a fixed order. First the request, which has to arrive at least two weeks before the event; then the fee, $25.00 for a park or $50.00 for the John Below Center; then the refundable deposit belonging to that particular booking, $50.00 in the first case and $200.00 in the second, sitting alongside the fee and never inside it. The hour you book hears one phrase whenever you can give it one. Thursday at 9:00 p.m., if Thursday at 9:00 p.m. is what is left.
Two weeks ahead for a park; ten days ahead for the balance on it. The larger the thing you want, the longer you must have known you wanted it. A first hour works from the other end. Your coach rearranges the session around whatever you bring on the day, so the only advance notice anybody needs is your own.
Fourteen lessons, two weeks, ten days, 24 hours. Four figures, and no date among them. Those four tell you how far off a thing is and leave you to work out which day it lands on; the Natchitoches Christmas Festival, charging $20 after 1:00 p.m., draws its line on the day itself. You arrive with whichever song has been bothering you, and the rest follows from there. No counting backward required.
