The Pontotoc County Free Fair takes its entries online and prints the refusal beside the offer: no late entries. Lessons at SIRIUS open from $29, with the trial hour before them free of charge. Whoever books it moves the passage you sing twice into the middle of the hour. One step gets you to a first lesson: pick the hour.
The worship choir at the First Baptist Church, 521 South Broadway Avenue, prints that nothing is tested at the door and that no singer gets asked to perform alone. We write down the plan and date it, so a month later the change is visible rather than remembered. The complaint usually points at one repeatable fault, most often a tongue held back far enough to swallow the vowel. A church that prints its own terms has told you what it is like before you walk in, which is worth more than a recommendation.
The ECU Singers at East Central University perform once a semester and take students without a hearing first; the University Chorale is a select touring ensemble, and the opera workshop there holds open enrollment for chorus and supporting roles. For a singing lesson nothing of the kind is required of you except that you sing. For a first hour we ask nothing beyond a song you already have and a willingness to sing it twice.
The opera workshop at East Central University runs one term at a time, with principal roles cast by hearing and open enrollment for chorus and supporting parts. A term is a way of packaging a year. Your lesson time takes a passage you sing twice and listens to both goes, and twice through one passage is the shortest honest measure there is.
The Ada Music Center at 713 West Main Street tells you to call the store, and Call A Ride takes cash at a counter. Some things here still want you in the room. The coach on the other end resets the appointment as soon as your week shifts, and the room is wherever you are standing.

Ada writes down how to get in, and prints the closed option beside it. An act reaching the stage of the McSwain Theatre at 130 West Main Street, owned and operated by the Chickasaw Nation, does it by appointment with the general manager or by mailing a press kit and a demo CD to a post office box; the house names both ways. Call A Ride Public Transit sells a ticket at its office or to a driver, cash only, correct change, and adds that there are no refunds and no change of destination once you have boarded. The Pontotoc County Free Fair takes entries online and states: no late entries. The instruction is not just the way in. It is also the thing ruled out.
Two Sunday services stand at the First Methodist Church of Ada, 129 West 14th Street, and the later of them carries the choir and the organ. First Baptist Church at 521 South Broadway Avenue holds one service at 10:30 a.m. in its Worship Center. At East Central University, 1100 East 14th Street, the ECU Singers are listed as open to students with no audition required, while the University Chorale is a select touring ensemble that does require one. We set up the appointment on the call itself. Between a fixed service time and a term calendar, the openings in this city are real and they are somebody else's shape.
The question of whether you are good enough does not arise at the First Baptist Church, 521 South Broadway Avenue, where the worship choir prints that no singer is tested at the door and that you will never be asked to sing out by yourself. That is a promise about a room, and it is a kind one. For the whole of a first hour, somebody listens to a passage you sing twice. Two goes at one passage is a quantity of attention no room can hand out.
The Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center at East Central University, opened in 2009, holds the Ataloa Theatre at up to 1,086 seats, the Chalmers Herman Theatre at up to 200, a choral hall with Wenger risers, and eight practice rooms behind the band room. Your lesson time gets written into a plan, and the plan is yours to see. The hour runs on one question at a time. Does the breath still hold at the close of the line you chose? Does the register change give itself away? Tone, tuning and reading get worked in behind those, in whatever order your songs demand.
The box office of the Chickasaw Nation's McSwain Theatre keeps fixed weekday hours and a second, longer set on show days, opening at least two hours before the doors and staying open at least an hour after the show has started. The coach on the other end asks nothing of your repertoire before you arrive. Two things happen here, and the first is free: book a trial hour, then book the ones after it at a figure you already know. A plan gets written either way, and it stays open a good while after the first hour has started.
Foster McSwain put up his theater in 1920 for silent films and vaudeville, and the Chickasaw Nation, which owns and operates it today, publishes no year for anything after that. It does publish how the seats work: assigned at the time of purchase for most live performances, first come first served for most film screenings and some live events, with the balcony shut for the screenings. Whoever books it hears the plan read back before the hour is over, which extends to an hour the courtesy a seat already gets.
The McSwain Theatre is owned and operated by the Chickasaw Nation and lists four dates, each at 7 p.m., with Tickets at Box Office printed where a price would be; tickets are also sold online. At the Pontotoc County Free Fair, held August 27 to 29, 2026 at 1700 North Broadway Avenue, each act is assigned to one of two named stages, an Indoor Stage and an Outdoor Stage. The stone amphitheater at Wintersmith Park, 1800 Scenic Drive, was built in 1934 by the Civilian Conservation Corps. The ECU Opera Workshop runs each fall semester in the Ataloa Theatre, with principal roles cast by hearing and open enrollment for chorus and supporting parts.
Wintersmith Park Field is let in slices of seventy-five minutes and costs nothing, while the Irving Community Center at 530 West 5th Street is priced per room and per time slot and runs from $100 to $1,500 depending on which room, as the City of Ada lists them. We move the appointment to fit your week, and not the reverse, which is the part no facility list can do. The ECU Singers take about a hundred student vocalists and perform once a semester. A lesson has no roll of that kind to fit onto.
The City of Ada opens the daytime slot at its Irving Community Center on weekends only and the evening slot on any day; its Arts and Heritage building at 400 South Rennie runs 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. or 6:00 to 11:00 p.m., with a gap between them. For a booked slot the school writes down the repertoire you named, and the slot itself is one you pick. Two windows and a gap are as far as a building can go.
