Tell us what you want to play and we match you with one of more than 150 vetted piano teachers, taking your own criteria into account. The first lesson is a free trial lesson with no obligation, and you decide after it whether to carry on.
After the trial you and your teacher agree on a weekly slot. Every lesson runs 45 minutes, one-on-one and live over video, and the hourly rate starts at $29 in a monthly plan. You can move a lesson or switch teachers in the booking tool.
Piano is coordination before it is talent, and coordination answers to work. The first short pieces with both hands together - a melody in the right hand over a few notes in the left - usually come after a few weeks of regular practice. How far you go from there depends on how often you sit down between lessons, which is what the sheet music in your SIRIUS Workspace is for.
No one is too late to begin: a private piano lesson lets you work at the instrument you already have, one-on-one, without waiting for a group to catch up. For a child, a one-on-one lesson keeps all 45 minutes on one pair of hands rather than on a room full of them.
Beginners need no prior experience at all. Anyone can learn to play the piano, and the early lessons are about hand position, posture and reading both clefs rather than repertoire. Our teachers work with complete beginners as often as with advanced players, and every lesson is built around your own goals and the music you want to play.

Piano is taught in New Brunswick at a university music school open to the public, in two public school courses and in classroom piano for enrolled college students, but we found no piano dealer and no published lesson rate in the city. Piscataway, the nearest larger town, lies 4.2 miles off in a straight line and New York City 29.2 miles, so the reason to learn online here is the time you get back rather than the distance.
Online lessons take the travel out of the week: no drive, no parking, and a slot that stays the same even when the rest of the week does not. Your teacher follows your hands and your posture on camera, stops you where a passage goes wrong, and works from the same sheet music you have open. If a teacher turns out not to fit, you switch in the booking tool.
SIRIUS has over 150 piano teachers, part of more than 400 music teachers across vocals, piano and guitar. Every one of them is vetted and handpicked before a single lesson, carries a SIRIUS certification, and stays in regular training and quality control. We teach every level and every age, from a first lesson to stage-ready.
You are matched rather than assigned: tell us your style, your goals and your schedule, and we find the teacher who fits them. Lessons run live over video on software we developed ourselves for music lessons, so the sound carries the detail an instrument lesson depends on, with nothing to install. In the SIRIUS Workspace your sheet music stays open to you between lessons as well as during them.

A lesson is 45 minutes, and in a monthly plan the hourly rate starts at $29. Your trial lesson is free. A plan covers two, three or four hours a month on a three- or six-month membership; more hours and a longer term bring the hourly rate down. You can pause or adjust your plan at any time. We found no published hourly piano rate in New Brunswick itself, and what teachers charge in nearby towns, starting with Piscataway 4.2 miles away, was not part of the check.
A keyboard is enough to begin on. What matters more than the number of keys is touch sensitivity: the keys have to answer to how hard you press, because that is how piano technique is built. Teachers widely treat 61 touch-sensitive keys as workable for a first year and recommend a full 88 weighted keys once you are a year or two in. Your teacher will look at what you have in the trial lesson.
Most piano teachers start children at around six or seven, once a child knows basic letters and numbers, can follow a simple instruction and can sit and focus for a stretch. Readiness counts for more than the birthday, and the free trial lesson is where you and the teacher find out whether yours is ready. Adults start with us at every age, and nobody is too late.
That depends on what you want to play and on how much you practice between lessons. Piano asks two hands to do different things at once, so the early work is hand position, reading both clefs and keeping a steady pulse. A first piece that uses both hands together tends to arrive after a stretch of regular practice, and the exercises in your Workspace are what carry the days in between.
Yes, and the reason is specific to the piano. A piano lesson is mostly listening, demonstrating and repeating, and none of that needs the same room. Your teacher follows your hand position and your posture on camera and can stop you mid-phrase, and the sheet music you work from stays open in your Workspace between lessons. Edison, the closest town of over a hundred thousand people, sits 5.2 miles from New Brunswick in a straight line, and Philadelphia is 49.1 miles out.

New Brunswick Public Schools, the city's own district, reports over a thousand students playing an instrument, with lessons open to any student from fourth grade. Its curriculum includes two piano courses, Piano I and Piano II, next to concert band and orchestra. Rutgers Community Arts, which Mason Gross School of the Arts runs for the general public, has a piano program of its own. Mason Gross itself teaches classroom piano in four levels, but only to enrolled students.
The New Jersey Music Teachers Association held its Spring Piano Festival at Mason Gross on two Sundays in March 2026. State Theatre New Jersey runs a six-concert classical series in its studio space; the 2026-2027 season brings a solo piano recital on November 29, 2026 and a cello-and-piano duo on February 21, 2027. The New Brunswick Chamber Orchestra, listed as a nonprofit by the IRS since 1979, is set to play the same series on April 25, 2027.
