Tell us what you want to play and we match you with one of more than 150 vetted piano teachers, taking your own criteria into account. The first lesson is a free trial lesson with no obligation, and you decide after it whether to carry on.
After the trial you and your teacher agree on a weekly slot. Every lesson runs 45 minutes, one-on-one and live over video, and the hourly rate starts at $29 in a monthly plan. You can move a lesson or switch teachers in the booking tool.
Piano is coordination before it is talent, and coordination answers to work. The first short pieces with both hands together - a melody in the right hand over a few notes in the left - usually come after a few weeks of regular practice. How far you go from there depends on how often you sit down between lessons, which is what the sheet music in your SIRIUS Workspace is for.
No one is too late to begin: a private piano lesson lets you work at the instrument you already have, one-on-one, without waiting for a group to catch up. For a child, a one-on-one lesson keeps all 45 minutes on one pair of hands rather than on a room full of them.
Beginners need no prior experience at all. Anyone can learn to play the piano, and the early lessons are about hand position, posture and reading both clefs rather than repertoire. Our teachers work with complete beginners as often as with advanced players, and every lesson is built around your own goals and the music you want to play.

Monroe teaches piano inside the city, and the university here even trains piano teachers - but we found no printed lesson price anywhere in town, and one provider says in writing that it keeps no rate sheet. The nearest larger city is 89 miles away. An online lesson is a rate you can see before you commit.
Online lessons take the travel out of the week: no drive, no parking, and a slot that stays the same even when the rest of the week does not. Your teacher follows your hands and your posture on camera, stops you where a passage goes wrong, and works from the same sheet music you have open. If a teacher turns out not to fit, you switch in the booking tool.
SIRIUS has over 150 piano teachers, part of more than 400 music teachers across vocals, piano and guitar. Every one of them is vetted and handpicked before a single lesson, carries a SIRIUS certification, and stays in regular training and quality control. We teach every level and every age, from a first lesson to stage-ready.
You are matched rather than assigned: tell us your style, your goals and your schedule, and we find the teacher who fits them. Lessons run live over video on software we developed ourselves for music lessons, so the sound carries the detail an instrument lesson depends on, with nothing to install. In the SIRIUS Workspace your sheet music stays open to you between lessons as well as during them.

A lesson is 45 minutes, and in a monthly plan the hourly rate starts at $29. Your trial lesson is free. A plan covers two, three or four hours a month on a three- or six-month membership; more hours and a longer term bring the hourly rate down. You can pause or adjust your plan at any time. We found no provider here printing a piano rate: the music house in town states outright that neither a teacher roster nor a price list is published, the one academy in town that lists its teaching staff names 2 piano teachers out of 6, and the university lists tuition rather than lesson prices.
A keyboard is enough to begin on. What matters more than the number of keys is touch sensitivity: the keys have to answer to how hard you press, because that is how piano technique is built. Teachers widely treat 61 touch-sensitive keys as workable for a first year and recommend a full 88 weighted keys once you are a year or two in. Your teacher will look at what you have in the trial lesson.
Most piano teachers start children at around six or seven, once a child knows basic letters and numbers, can follow a simple instruction and can sit and focus for a stretch. Readiness counts for more than the birthday, and the free trial lesson is where you and the teacher find out whether yours is ready. Adults start with us at every age, and nobody is too late.
That depends on what you want to play and on how much you practice between lessons. Piano asks two hands to do different things at once, so the early work is hand position, reading both clefs and keeping a steady pulse. A first piece that uses both hands together tends to arrive after a stretch of regular practice, and the exercises in your Workspace are what carry the days in between.
Yes, and the reason is specific to the piano. A piano lesson is mostly listening, demonstrating and repeating, and none of that needs the same room. Your teacher follows your hand position and your posture on camera and can stop you mid-phrase, and the sheet music you work from stays open in your Workspace between lessons. Monroe has piano teaching of its own and the nearest larger city is 89 miles off, so an online lesson here competes on a price you can see rather than on the distance.

The university here keeps a 284-seat recital hall with two 9-foot-2 Fazioli concert grands, and it carries piano pedagogy as a degree program of its own, with a coordinator and a keyboard department of 2 faculty teaching class piano alongside it. The city orchestra's competition for emerging artists has a piano category of its own, open from age 12, with prizes from $100 to $1,000, and its final sits in that hall in January.
A music house in town has been trading since 1946 across six lines of business - pianos, organs, keyboards and a repair bench - and it teaches, but it writes on its own page that it publishes no roster and no rate sheet. Of the 554 tax-exempt organizations registered in Monroe, 12 are music or performing-arts bodies, and none of those 12 is a piano school. The city runs its own school district, with 13 elementary schools, 3 junior high schools and 3 high schools.
