After the trial you and your teacher agree on a weekly slot. Every lesson runs 45 minutes, one-on-one and live over video, and the hourly rate starts at $29 in a monthly plan. You can move a lesson or switch teachers in the booking tool.
Piano is coordination before it is talent, and coordination answers to work. The first short pieces with both hands together - a melody in the right hand over a few notes in the left - usually come after a few weeks of regular practice. How far you go from there depends on how often you sit down between lessons, which is what the sheet music in your SIRIUS Workspace is for.
No one is too late to begin: a private piano lesson lets you work at the instrument you already have, one-on-one, without waiting for a group to catch up. For a child, a one-on-one lesson keeps all 45 minutes on one pair of hands rather than on a room full of them.
Beginners need no prior experience at all. Anyone can learn to play the piano, and the early lessons are about hand position, posture and reading both clefs rather than repertoire. Our teachers work with complete beginners as often as with advanced players, and every lesson is built around your own goals and the music you want to play.

In the city we found one university preparatory program that teaches piano, priced by the school year, a dealer that refers teachers but does not teach, and no private piano studio with its own published address. Miami, the nearest larger city, is 7.2 miles away in a straight line. The preparatory lessons run from August to May, and fall enrollment becomes non-refundable 30 days into the semester.
Online lessons take the travel out of the week: no drive, no parking, and a slot that stays the same even when the rest of the week does not. Your teacher follows your hands and your posture on camera, stops you where a passage goes wrong, and works from the same sheet music you have open. If a teacher turns out not to fit, you switch in the booking tool.

A lesson is 45 minutes, and in a monthly plan the hourly rate starts at $29. Your trial lesson is free. A plan covers two, three or four hours a month on a three- or six-month membership; more hours and a longer term bring the hourly rate down. You can pause or adjust your plan at any time. In Coral Gables, the 2025-2026 catalog of the University of Miami preparatory program lists $1,522 for a weekly 30-minute piano lesson through a thirty-week school year, $2,178 for 45 minutes and $2,872 for an hour, and group piano at $1,475 for the year.
A keyboard is enough to begin on. What matters more than the number of keys is touch sensitivity: the keys have to answer to how hard you press, because that is how piano technique is built. Teachers widely treat 61 touch-sensitive keys as workable for a first year and recommend a full 88 weighted keys once you are a year or two in. Your teacher will look at what you have in the trial lesson.
Most piano teachers start children at around six or seven, once a child knows basic letters and numbers, can follow a simple instruction and can sit and focus for a stretch. Readiness counts for more than the birthday, and the free trial lesson is where you and the teacher find out whether yours is ready. Adults start with us at every age, and nobody is too late.

The University of Miami campus lies inside the city limits, and the preparatory program of its Frost School of Music teaches piano to children from age five and to adults from eighteen. Private lessons are weekly, from a half hour up to a full hour, across a thirty-week school year, and group piano meets in a building with two keyboard labs. One of its concert halls has six hundred seats.
Coral Gables Senior High, part of the county school district, lists a band among its performing groups and runs a visual and performing arts academy. A Steinway dealer in the city keeps new and used pianos, rents instruments to students, refers teachers and hosts teacher recitals in a hall with one hundred seats. In the 2026-2027 season, the Friends of Chamber Music of Miami plays six of its nine concerts in Coral Gables, two of them solo piano recitals, on January 30 and April 19, 2027.
