Tell us what you want to play and we match you with one of more than 150 guitar teachers, taking your own criteria into account. The first lesson is a free trial lesson with no obligation, and you decide after it whether to carry on.
After the trial you and your teacher agree on a weekly slot. Every lesson runs 45 minutes, one-on-one and live over video, and the hourly rate starts at $29 in a monthly plan. You can move a lesson or switch teachers in the booking tool.
The first clean chord changes under a steady strum tend to come with a few weeks of regular playing. How far you go from there depends on how often you pick the guitar up between lessons, which is what the sheet music in your SIRIUS Workspace is for.
No one is too late to begin: a private guitar lesson works with the guitar you already have, acoustic, electric or classical, one-on-one and without waiting for a group to catch up. In a one-on-one lesson all 45 minutes go to one player's hands and one player's questions.
Beginners need no prior experience at all. The early lessons are about posture, first chords and a steady strumming hand, and reading tabs and notes comes along the way. Some of our teachers specialize in guitar for beginners, others teach advanced and professional players, and every lesson is built around the songs and styles you want to play.

We found no guitar lessons advertised on a website in Effingham itself. Mattoon, the nearest larger city, is 26.7 miles away in a straight line, and in Charleston, 32.1 miles off, Eastern Illinois University's community music program has music majors teaching guitar. Online, lessons start without any of that driving.
Online lessons take the travel out of the week: no drive, no guitar case to carry, and a slot that stays the same even when the rest of the week does not. Your teacher watches both of your hands on camera and stops you where a chord change buzzes or a rhythm drifts. If a teacher turns out not to fit, you switch in the booking tool.
SIRIUS has over 150 guitar teachers, part of more than 400 music teachers across vocals, piano and guitar. Every one of them is vetted and handpicked before a single lesson, carries a SIRIUS certification, and stays in regular training and quality control. We teach every level and every age, from a first lesson to stage-ready.
You are matched rather than assigned: tell us your style, whether classical, rock, jazz or fingerstyle, along with your goals and your schedule, and we find the teacher who fits them. Lessons run live over video on software we developed ourselves for music lessons, so the sound carries the detail a guitar lesson depends on. In the SIRIUS Workspace your guitar sheet music is there for you outside of lessons too.

More hours = a better price per hour. Every plan: 45-min one-on-one lessons with vetted teachers.

A lesson is 45 minutes, and in a monthly plan the hourly rate starts at $29. Your trial lesson is free. A plan covers two, three or four hours a month on a three- or six-month membership; more hours and a longer term bring the hourly rate down. You can pause or adjust your plan at any time. In Charleston, 32.1 miles from Effingham, Eastern Illinois University's community music program set its fall 2026 term at $280 for thirteen lessons plus a $20 registration fee, a price that covers every instrument it teaches.
Either one works, and the guitar you actually want to play is usually the better choice, because that is the one you will pick up. An electric tends to have lighter strings, which is easier on the fingers at first; a steel-string acoustic needs no extra equipment. If you are unsure, a common piece of advice is to start on an acoustic. Our lessons cover acoustic, electric and classical guitar, so the one you already own is a fine place to begin.
Many children are ready for guitar at around six or seven, and some not until ten or eleven, which is normal. Readiness counts for more than the birthday: real interest in playing, the ability to sit and focus for a stretch, and hands that reach around a guitar neck sized for a child. The free trial lesson is where you and the teacher find out whether yours is ready. Adults start with us at every age, and nobody is too late.
That depends on what you want to play and on how much you practice between lessons, so the number of lessons differs from one student to the next. The early work is posture, first chords and keeping the strumming hand steady, and you can start on your favorite songs right away and build from there. Your teacher sets the pace with you after the trial lesson.
Yes, and for guitar the camera covers what matters. A guitar lesson is mostly listening, demonstrating and repeating, and none of that needs the same room. Your teacher sees your fretting hand and your picking hand on camera, can stop you on a buzzing note or an uneven strum, and the sheet music you work from stays open in your Workspace between lessons. In-person guitar lessons we found are in Charleston, 32.1 miles away, where music majors at Eastern Illinois University teach people of all ages, so online, look for a teacher who works at your pace and sends clear practice tasks between lessons.

We found no guitar teacher or studio with a website of its own in Effingham. A music academy in town teaches piano and voice, and guitar does not appear on the three pages we read. Effingham High School, part of the city's Unit 40 district, has concert, jazz and marching bands, and the activities page we read does not mention guitar.
Lake Land College runs a technology center in Effingham; guitar is not among the three music courses in its 2026-2028 catalog, and the main campus is in Mattoon, 26.7 miles away. Guitar is part of church music too: a Methodist congregation in town says percussion and guitar are often heard in its praise band. For live music, the visitors bureau points to local singer-songwriters with guitars at a winery and a lakeside spot in the area, and the Effingham Performance Center is a 1,518-seat hall operated by a nonprofit arts group founded in 2010.
