You are probably expecting another rate card with a big first number, the way a hall costs more for its opening block than for the hours after it. A lesson is not built that way. A lesson begins its pricing at $29. Before that there is a trial hour, and it is free. That figure buys sixty minutes of one coach's attention, a plan committed to paper, and a recording that stays with you. Tift Lift needs a day of warning before it moves; a lesson needs less.
Marti Schert is Lecturer of Choral and Applied Voice at ABAC, and that is the one post in the department whose title carries the word voice. A gift is not what singing runs on; instruction is. Reading music follows a fixed order: the staff, then intervals, then rhythm, and weeks rather than years. Sound production is a matter of habit, breath, a larynx that settles, a jaw that stays loose, and repetition is what fixes them. Both are taught, both are learned, and one does not hold up the other.
ABAC's Group Piano classes hold six to ten students and its Musicianship classes hold ten to twenty. Those numbers sort a room; they do not sort a singer. Six is roughly where singing draws its lower line, since that is when one spoken instruction can be held for a whole exercise, and there is no upper line. While the instrument is being rebuilt, a second listener earns their keep. Adults come to it at the age they come, and an hour can be shaped around whoever that is.
Two questions are folded together here: the run-time of a lesson, and the wait before something changes. An hour a week is the lesson. Younger singers often get further on half the length at twice the frequency. The ABAC Fine Arts Academy sells voice in sections of eight classes across eight weeks, and eight weeks is a fair first marker, since by then a phrase sets off with less wobble and the upper notes give way more easily. A season later the register shift stops announcing itself. A year on, the difference turns up in what you can lift off a page cold.
The condition comes first. You need a camera, a connection that holds and a door that shuts, and the list ends there. Everette Temple CME runs a 4th Sunday Service virtually at 9 a.m. behind a dial-in number and an access code, which is a room you join. A lesson is not a room you join; it is two people working. A piano, a microphone and an acoustically treated room can be done without. Your coach picks up what the breath is doing beneath the note and says so before it ends.

The City of Tifton rents the Tift Theatre for Performing Arts at $110 an hour and $650 for a day of eight, so the opening hour is the dear one and the day is where the climb stops. Rates here are put together that way more often than not, and the Census Bureau put Tifton at 17,595 residents for 2025. A singing lesson does not buy a room by the block. It buys an hour of attention, and attention is the part that compounds.
Daily Rate (8 Hours) is one column heading on the rental sheet of the City of Tifton, and the hourly column beside it reads $110. The Tift County Recreation Department writes its halls the same way, at $25 for the first two hours in the Multi Purpose Building and $10 for each hour after that. The opening block carries the weight; what follows is cheaper. Singing has no opening block. It has a week, and one hour inside that week which belongs to your voice.
The ABAC Fine Arts Academy prints a size on its Group Piano classes, six to ten students, beside a one-time registration fee of $45 that the academy charges new students. The Tift County Recreation Department prints a size too, since its Multi Purpose Building seats 30. Both are rooms with a number on the door. A SIRIUS hour runs beside such rooms rather than in place of them, and its own number is one. Just one coach and just one singer, with a plan drawn up for the voice in the room.
Tift County School District names three show choirs: One Voice for grades seven and eight, Ladies Choice and the Eighth Street Singing Company for nine through twelve. ABAC prints what its voice audition wants: two pieces from memory that contrast, vocal scales, sightreading, and music carried in by hand. A SIRIUS hour arrives at the same ground along another road. You work on air that outlasts a phrase, a register shift with no catch in it, tuning that stays honest as the volume climbs, and reading steady enough to hold your place on a page.
The Southern Georgia Regional Commission requires 24 hour notification to schedule a ride on Tift Lift, and it answers between 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., Monday to Friday. Set a lesson against that measure and the difference is plain. A lesson begins its pricing at $29. Before that there is a trial hour, and it is free. The booking window is whatever window you happen to be sitting in. After that comes a coach selected around music you keep returning to, a plan you can find when you need it, and an hour that gives way when the week does.
Tift County keeps a weather line on (229) 528-9292 and updates it after 3:00 p.m., so the answer is there before you leave the house. Everette Temple Christian Methodist Episcopal Church runs its 4th Sunday Service virtually at 9 a.m., behind a dial-in number and an access code that stand as the condition of entry. A SIRIUS lesson is the rehearsal that comes before either kind of room. It runs over video, records itself as it happens, and drops the video, the drills and a few written lines into your workspace.
ABAC Arts and Culture runs two series out of one office. The First Tuesday Concert Series plays monthly, on the first Tuesday, at 7:00 p.m. with doors opening at 6:30 p.m., open to the public with no ticket required. ABAC Presents! begins at 7:00 p.m. with doors at 6:15 p.m., runs five dates from October to April, and asks for a ticket, though tickets do not have to be printed for entry. A published figure in this town rises steepest at the start and flattens after. The $200 security deposit at the Tift Theatre for Performing Arts is where that rule stops - it buys no time, and the City of Tifton returns it fourteen days after the production if there is no damage.
First Baptist Church at 404 Love Avenue sorts singers by who is in the room rather than by what they can do. The Adult Choir meets on Wednesdays from 6:45 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. with no risk and no obligation attached; the Joyful Sound Choir meets Thursdays from 10:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.; the children's groups run Wednesday evening at 6:00 p.m. and Sunday afternoon from 4:45 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. A SIRIUS lesson covers the same span and does without the sorting. A small child starts in play, a teenager stays with it while the instrument rebuilds, and an adult picks up at the point they once left off.
The Open Air Pavilion of the Tift County Recreation Department is available March to August and carries a minimum of $50, so for six months of the year the thing is simply not there. Tift Lift wants a day's notice. The Coastal Plain Regional Library System meets on the last Monday of four months in the year and asks you to call and confirm the dates are as planned. A SIRIUS hour asks for little of that. Book it, shift it, or put another one in, and the week you are already living in is the calendar it uses.
404 Love Avenue is where the First Baptist choir room is, and the Adult Choir there takes new voices with no risk and no obligation, which is generous and leaves one thing uncovered: the room cannot report back on what your own voice is up to. That is the gap a first SIRIUS hour fills. Take a piece that has ridden around with you for years, and run it once. You come away with the two changes that will move the sound soonest, and a reading of where the voice stands today.
ABAC Presents! sets its five dates between October 2026 and April 15, 2027, and the Open Air Pavilion opens in March and shuts at the end of August. Seasons here decide when a thing is available. A weekly hour keeps its own rhythm inside them, and it does not close for six months. Yours can start at home, in the week you are in, with one song and one listener.
