Southeastern Massachusetts teachers tend to ask somewhere from $50 to $90 for the hour; Boston runs above that. The SIRIUS opening session is free, so what you compare is the coaching itself rather than two hourly rates.
Yes, with very few exceptions. Breath, ear and vocal coordination all improve under instruction, which is why community choruses full of ordinary people sound good. The ones who plateau are usually the ones nobody ever corrected.
Children manage it from about seven, once they can hold a plan for twenty minutes. Teenagers benefit from steady work through the voice change. Adults in Taunton start at every age, often after a season of singing carols and realizing they enjoyed it.
The first changes are in the breath and arrive within weeks. Consistency, meaning you sound much the same tired as fresh, tends to arrive after roughly a year of regular work. After that it becomes a long, slow, pleasant improvement.
They work well. What a lesson requires is that your coach hears you accurately and can demonstrate the fix, and a solid connection delivers both. The practical gain is that nothing between your front door and the studio can cancel it.

Taunton has been the shire town of Bristol County, Massachusetts since the seventeenth century - settled in 1637, incorporated in 1639, built around two commons rather than one. The silverware works that gave it the name Silver City are gone, Reed and Barton having ended in bankruptcy a decade ago, but the other nickname is very much alive. Taunton calls itself the Christmas City, and on the first Saturday of December it lights the Green and fills the surrounding blocks with music. The 2026 edition will be the hundred and thirteenth.
Be honest about what this city is and is not. Taunton has neither a concert hall nor a professional orchestra. What there is instead is a stubborn civic habit of singing together: the Taunton Civic Chorus has been going since 1959, takes anyone from high school age up without an audition and brings its concerts back into the city twice a year. Liberty and Union Park on Main Street runs free summer concerts. The Center on Main hosts jazz nights through the warm months. The Taunton River Festival puts live music on the riverbank at Weir Village every June. It is amateur in the original sense of the word, and there is a great deal of it.
A chorus will let you hide in a section, which is comfortable and also the reason many singers stop improving. One coach and one singer removes that option in the most useful way. The early sessions establish what your voice does easily, what it works around and which habits are worth protecting.
First the foundation: breathing that supports rather than pushes, pitch that stays put, a warm-up that leaves you in better shape than it found you. Then range, evenness and endurance. Then the things an audience actually registers - phrasing, diction, the decision about where a line breathes.
Nobody is assigned at random; the coach is selected to suit whatever it is you sing. No invoice follows the introduction. Lessons run online, at times you choose, and they move when December gets busy. Beginners and experienced singers both find the level they need.
Since a singing lesson is carried entirely by sound, our platform is engineered around it rather than around video. The catch in a breath and the flattening of a vowel both arrive intact, and get corrected while you are still in the phrase.
December is the obvious answer - the Lighting of the Green and the Lights On Festival put entertainment on dozens of corners at once, and the display stays up until the new year. But there is a summer version too: Thursday evenings at Liberty and Union Park, jazz on Main Street, the river festival in June. The Old Colony History Museum at Church Green keeps the older story, back to the Liberty and Union flag the town raised in 1774. And Taunton has put a singer on national television: Nicholas Pedro made the final rounds of American Idol.
Students come from Weir Village and East Taunton, from Whittenton and the streets off the Green. A few already hold down a part somewhere on a Sunday morning. Most have not sung anywhere in years.
Forty miles to Boston, eighteen to Providence, and a commuter line that only reopened last year - a lot of people here spend their evenings in transit. A lesson at home gives that hour back.
Begin with the free session. Sing something you know, listen to what a coach notices, and take it from there.
In a city that lights its Green every December and sings around it, a trained voice never goes unused. Start yours a few streets from the common.
