The Ritz prints a deadline most houses leave vague: online ticket sales end 3 hours before curtain. A cut-off like that tells you when a door closes on a way of paying. Our pricing has no cut-off to learn. A lesson is priced from $29 up, with the session you try beforehand free of charge. The Ritz shows what a published deadline does for a buyer, and our figure does the same work, which seeds the first round of planning rather than complicating it.
The Ritz answers this for its own stage in one line: no experience is necessary to take part in one of our productions. A house that stages plays with volunteers has to say so plainly, because the fear of being unqualified keeps more people away than a lack of talent does. Singing works the same. Inexperience is the normal starting condition, and note reading is a separate skill you can pick up later. Your coach suspends the middle leg of the journey, the part where you decide in advance whether you qualify, and starts from what your voice does today.
First Baptist Church lists its youngest group as Kids (birth-5th grade), a span that begins at zero because a congregation counts arrivals rather than abilities. Lessons count differently. Seven or thereabouts is the practical floor for private work, and above it the span stays open well into later decades. The groups in town hold to their grade lines, with the Ritz Community Theatre as the exception: it owns and rents out its hall and teaches in it weekly, so room and instruction sit in one pair of hands. The work sums the two halves of talent and time, and time is the half you control.
Borrow a unit from the college. Western Texas College defines a semester hour as one lecture period of 50 minutes per week for a 16-week semester, which is how an institution measures learning it cannot see day to day. A voice moves faster than that early on: one semester of lessons at a weekly rhythm usually brings a hearable change, and a second one a tone that holds in a room. Your coach schedules around the hall rather than around a term, so the start does not wait for September.
Distance is written into the rules here. Western Texas College publishes a federal limit for its international students of no more than the equivalent of one online or distance learning course, or three credits per session, toward a full load. That is a cap written for one group of students, and a singing lesson has no equivalent of it. For singing, remote work is simply the normal case: the teaching travels, and the driving is what stays behind. A lesson leases the upper floor of your attention and leaves the drive out of it.

Western Texas College sits inside the city at 6200 College Avenue, and it runs the Coliseum at 900 East Coliseum Drive, whose operations it took over in June, 2008, with stadium seating of 3,890 and a Westerner Room that holds 150. Its 2025-2026 catalog files one course under the heading MUSIC, a course in music appreciation, and files the voice course under drama. A singer looking for a teacher here has to know where to look before looking, and that is the gap worth knowing about.
A room and a teacher are different goods, and having one says little about finding the other. The college has the hall, and the college catalog puts singing under a heading a singer would reach for last. A voice course exists there, filed with the actors. So the room is easy to locate while the instruction takes a search, which is the wrong way round for somebody who just wants to sound better. A private lesson skips the search: the coach comes to you, the room is wherever you happen to sit, and the practice expands past the block of finding a door.
The Ritz Community Theatre at 1810 26th St prints what a visitor needs in order: doors open 1 hour before the show, seating begins 1/2 hour before the curtain, and the box office opens 1 hour before the curtain on show days. Three fixed points, each measured from the same event. Your voice deserves that kind of sequence, and it gets one: the vowel that closes on the high note is identified, then worked, then checked. Each fix shelves its older list, and the next session starts from the shorter one.
Where your air goes and how long it lasts. The shift between registers, and how to make the crossing inaudible. Vowel shape under pressure, consonants that land on time rather than early. Then the wider work: where to take air so a long phrase arrives intact, which word in a line carries the weight, how to finish a phrase deliberately. No season governs the start here, so the teaching gates the late entry open and lets you begin in the middle of a month.
One coach and one singer, at hours of your choosing. Video carries the lesson one-on-one, so your evening stays intact. A starting lesson the school covers comes ahead of a further step, and no term needs joining first. Arrange it once and the lesson wires the back room of the week for good.
The technical bar is low. The one thing worth arranging is a room where you are willing to be loud, because a singer who holds back teaches the coach little. Your coach keeps the recording made in a rented room or a kitchen, whichever you sing in, and compares it with last month's. Set a recording from February beside one from June and the comparison prorates the short month against the long one, showing you a difference you cannot hear from inside.
The Ritz runs a theater academy whose classes cost $20 per week per student, open to students in 2nd through 12th grades and meeting weekly, with no additional charge when extra rehearsals are added. Our Lady of Guadalupe at 1300 Avenue K, established 1955, holds its English Mass on Sundays at 11:00 a.m. First Baptist Church at 1701 27th St lists Worship at 10:15A on Sundays, with Kids (birth-5th grade) available at 9A. The Coliseum's rodeo ring measures 190' x 90', and its annex arena runs to 4,936 square feet.
Groups in this town publish their edges by grade. The Ritz takes 2nd through 12th graders into its weekly troupe, and its summer work ran in 2026 as a junior and a senior camp. Churches sort by age from birth upward. Those lines exist because a group must be arranged, and they say little about a voice. A lesson has one singer in it, so the line that matters runs between where you are and where you want to be. The teaching segments the long block into weeks you can actually work through.
Western Texas College runs its day classes four days a week in two groups, Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday, and its evening classes generally one night a week for a period of three hours. That is a grid built for hundreds of people at once. Yours is built for one. Choose an evening, keep it as long as it serves, move it when work or family says otherwise, and hold on to the same coach through the change. A lesson seats the smaller group, and the smaller group is you.
Begin with the number you learned on stage, or in a car, or at a kitchen sink. Your opening session goes to hearing what is already there. From there the plan is one target at a time, checked at the next meeting, and adjusted when the voice says so. The Ritz switched its neon back on in June 1992, during a renovation begun that year, and swapped the neon for LED in 2006; things get rebuilt in stages here. Your voice does the same, and each stage trims the outer margin of what used to be difficult.
The hall and the teaching sit under different headings here, and finding both means reading two lists. A SIRIUS lesson arrives as one entry: the coach, the time and the plan together, with the room supplied by wherever you happen to be. It limits the top row of the week and opens the rest.
