Peninsula College charges Washington residents $136.14 a credit, and MUSC 161 adds a $15 music lab fee on top; the Port Angeles Symphony Orchestra sells a single dress rehearsal at $20 for an adult. Both of those buy a seat or a credit. Our own lessons start from $29, and the first hour comes with our compliments. You rearrange a phrase and hear it change inside that hour. The rest is length and how often.
That sentence is a verdict reached without a hearing. Holy Trinity opens Young Voices to students aged 5 to 18; St. Matthew rehearses at 6 p.m. on Wednesdays; MUSC 146 asks for instructor permission; Adventures in Music reaches whole classrooms from K through 5. Not one of those was built to tell a single person what their own voice is doing. SIRIUS writes the plan from what the recording shows, if you will sing one phrase into it twice.
Age genuinely matters, and two houses here say where: Young Voices at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church takes students from 5 to 18, and Adventures in Music runs for grades K through 5. Those brackets hold a group together, and that is a real job. Fitting an hour to one changing voice is a different job. Of you one booked hour asks only that the voice be present, whatever decade it is in, as long as there is a phrase you want to fix.
For the window running to October 12, 2026 the Black Ball Ferry Line runs the MV Coho from 101 East Railroad Avenue to Victoria at 8:20 a.m., 12:45 p.m. and 5:15 p.m., and the vessel is out of service from January 4 to February 3, 2027. A crossing has a fixed duration; a voice has none. Your SIRIUS hour stays on one phrase closely enough that you hear it shift while it is shifting, and the pace of all that follows rests on what you sing between lessons, a different order of schedule from the one kept by the Black Ball Ferry Line.
The rule that governs the roads here governs a connection too: the only question is whether anything has to leave. Route 123, the Strait Shot of the Clallam Transit System, has weekday departures from the Gateway Transit Center toward Bainbridge Island at 7:25 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., with arrivals back at 12:15 p.m., 4:55 p.m. and 10:05 p.m.; none of those times needs to appear in your calendar at all. Your coach reschedules the session from a screen when your Thursday turns, and you sing from the room you were already sitting in.

A ride in Port Angeles costs nothing until it leaves. Clallam Transit System has run zero-fare on every route but three since January 1, 2025, and each of the three charges for an exit: Route 123, the Strait Shot, at $10.00 regular and $5.00 reduced, running to Bainbridge Island; the Hurricane Ridge Shuttle at $1.00 and $0.50, climbing out of town into a national park; Clallam Connect at $3.75 per mile, charged only when a trip starts or ends more than three-quarters of a mile off the line corridor. From the terminal at 101 East Railroad Avenue the Black Ball Ferry Line takes the MV Coho across to Victoria, British Columbia, at $25.00 for an adult and $12.50 for a child aged 5 to 11. Two things cut across the rule. In all three paid services Youth aged 18 and under, Peninsula College Students and Veterans travel free, and once Clallam Connect has crossed the line it goes back to measuring distance.
Asking how far away the nearest singing room is puts the question in the wrong currency. Holy Trinity Lutheran Church at 301 East Lopez Avenue gathers its Young Voices Choir on Wednesdays from 4:00 p.m. and its Chancel Choir from 6:30 p.m.; St. Matthew Lutheran Church LCMS at 132 East 13th Street rehearses Wednesday at 6 p.m.; Peninsula College runs MUSC 146, Vocal Ensemble, by instructor permission; the Port Angeles Symphony Orchestra sells its dress rehearsals as their own class of admission. SIRIUS moves the condition to your side of the line, if you have an hour and a quiet room.
A rehearsal is a real education, and the Chancel Choir at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church gives one away every Wednesday evening. It trains you to keep one line steady while others run against it, a skill worth owning, and one that reports nothing back about your own instrument. Into one hour your coach brings a single phrase and stays with it -- as far as the recording lets the two of you hear it.
Music on the Strait set up the Rapasky Community Music Scholarship in 2022, worth $500, closing on November 14, and one line in the rules matters more than the amount: "These funds are paid directly to private teachers." The money names a teacher and an hour. One SIRIUS hour writes the next appointment down against a named fault -- the breath that will not last a long line, the vowel that widens under pressure -- much the way a course outline is written down for MUSC 161 at Peninsula College.
A scholarship sends money toward a teacher; a ticket buys a seat. Neither one describes your voice. The Port Angeles Symphony Orchestra prices its dress rehearsals at $20 adult, $15 senior and $10 student, sells a six-rehearsal pass at $80, $65 and $45, and carries the same line through every category: age 18 and under go free when accompanied by a ticketed patron. Your coach wants none of that and wants a song, and the first hour is ours to give.
A hall sends a balance out to an audience; a lesson delivers one voice to one listener, and the second job is the harder of the two at low volume. You play the take back with your coach still on the line, and the softest part of the phrase is still legible, because that is the part the channel was told to keep. In a month those files will be the plan you work from.
Music on the Strait works out of PO Box 44 under artistic director James Garlick and funds the Rapasky Community Music Scholarship at $500, applications closing November 14. The Port Angeles Symphony Orchestra runs Adventures in Music for grades K through 5 with "no charge to either the students or the schools," paying three visits a school year to an elementary school in Clallam County. The Young Voices Choir meets at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesdays and draws students aged 5 to 18. Peninsula College lists MUSC 161, Beginning Instruction-Voice/Instruments, at 2 credits and 44 lab hours, with a $15 music lab fee.
In this catalog the levels read as permissions. MUSC 161 is open instruction at 2 credits; MUSC 146, the Vocal Ensemble, needs instructor permission; it may be repeated up to three times for a total of six credits; and the Orchestra Scholarships of the Port Angeles Symphony Orchestra reach only players who turned out for at least four of the last five concerts. SIRIUS meets the session at the level standing in front of it; nobody signs a permission slip, and nobody counts concerts back to four.
The North Olympic Library System rents its Port Angeles rooms on a published scale: the Carver Meeting Room at $50 for two hours, $100 for four and $200 for a day; Carver North and Carver South at $25, $50 and $100; the Coffey Conference Room at $15, $30 and $60; the study rooms at $5, $10 and $20. The break in that list is that every one of them is free, provided the group is a nonprofit, the purpose is not commercial, the event is open to all, and nothing whatever is collected from the people inside. For your own hour SIRIUS records the material you chose and holds it wherever you sit down, on East Lopez Avenue or up the hill.
The order here is fixed and public. First a booking, which the North Olympic Library System will not take as a walk-in for a meeting room; then a library card, required for every reservation; then the block of staff time added automatically to the end of your slot, reserved exclusively for staff use. A first SIRIUS hour asks for one thing ahead of any plan: the song you keep stopping in the middle of.
Clallam Connect charges $3.75 a mile once a trip leaves the corridor, and nothing while it stays inside it. The same shape runs through singing here: what is within reach is shared and open, and the moment you want something addressed to you alone, a figure appears. Your coach hears the one voice a shared room cannot, so what you are paying for turns out to be attention rather than distance.
