Yes. The symphony put out a call for an adult chorus in a city that had lost its auditorium, and enough people turned up to bring a house to its feet in December 2025. All voice types were welcome. That is the answer.
About seven. The symphony's children's chorus takes fourth through sixth grades, which is roughly the age the group work starts paying off. Teenagers want supervision through the change. Adults begin at any age.
Eight weeks alters a recording. Twelve months alters a room. Past that the gains get small and slow, and small and slow is where the interesting part lives.
They do. The entire exchange is accuracy heading out and a demonstration heading back; a decent connection handles it. In a place where August tops ninety on most days and the season runs to November, not driving is a real argument.

Panama City sits on St. Andrew Bay, and everything about it now dates from before or after the tenth of October 2018. Hurricane Michael came ashore that afternoon at Mexico Beach as a Category 5 with a hundred and sixty mile per hour winds; gusts hit a hundred and sixty-four in the city, at least ninety percent of structures and sixty-nine percent of homes were damaged, and ten to twenty thousand residents were displaced. The population fell from thirty-six thousand to thirty-three, and it has since climbed back to nearly thirty-eight - past where it started. The century-old downtown clock, stopped by the storm, was restarted on the tenth of October 2023, five years to the day. Bay County holds around two hundred thousand people, forty-five percent of them outside any municipality, so the catchment is a bay-shaped region rather than a small city. Tyndall Air Force Base and Naval Support Activity Panama City are still rebuilding and still employing.
Because of a decision somebody made here that deserves noting. The Marina Civic Center, twenty-five hundred seats, closed after the hurricane and was demolished in October 2024. The Martin Theatre, an Art Deco house from 1936, is a construction site with a thirty-five million dollar rebuild due to open in the fall of 2027, and no operator chosen yet. So the city has been without a proper concert hall for eight years and has one more to go. In the middle of that, the Panama City Symphony started a chorus. Two, in fact - an adult chorus under Christina Burroughs and a children's chorus under Kenny Kirkland - and they debuted in December 2025. Auditions for the coming season fall on the eighth and tenth of September, at First United Methodist on Highway 98. Alongside them the Panama City A Cappella chorus, which has sung here since 1978 and rechartered under a new name five months after the storm, rehearses Tuesdays and requires no music reading at all.
A chorus that turns nobody away will also never explain why your upper register goes thin. That diagnosis takes one hour and one listener.
Breath, then intonation steady enough for a September audition, then a range that arrives whole instead of climbing in steps, then reserves for a full concert. If Beethoven's Ninth in German is on the horizon, add language early rather than late.

A voice lesson is made of audio and little else, which is why the audio got built first. A folding breath or an attack under the note reaches your teacher whole and is repaired within the line.
St. Andrews, the oldest part of town, was settled in 1827 on salt, fishing and boat building, and its waterfront is busy again. Glenwood, historically Black, is anchored by the Rosenwald School, which was the cultural center of African American life in Bay County before its junior college merged into Gulf Coast in 1966. Backstage Pass fills the Marina Lawn free on Thursday evenings from mid-September, a series descended from Concerts in the Park, which started in 1986. The Songwriters Festival takes over downtown venues in November. And the town has produced real singers: ASTN was born here and broke through with a cover in 2021; Clint Daniels was born here and raised in Lynn Haven, and has written number ones for other people since; Mike Campbell, born here in 1950, spent decades as Tom Petty's guitarist and co-writer, though he is a player rather than a singer. One honest note: Dan Peek of America was born here too, but his father was Air Force and the family moved constantly - the base is why he was born here, and that is the whole of the connection.

Duty rosters at two installations, a summer where most days clear ninety, and a storm season that runs to the end of November: a standing hour clear across the water is hard to defend against all three. One that opens at home does not need protecting.
