Quad Cities Music Therapy, 1800 7th Ave. in Moline, publishes a rate you can check yourself: $26 per lesson for weekly 30-minute voice lessons, plus a one-time $20 registration fee for new students. West Music, whose individual-lessons page lists a Davenport, Iowa store, publishes private lessons of 30, 45 or 60 minutes starting at $97/month for weekly lessons, and notes that pricing varies by instructor, location and lesson length. Set beside those figures: a full hour of one-on-one work with SIRIUS is $29, and that opening hour costs nothing.
Almost everyone can. Singing coordinates three things - breath, the vocal folds, resonance - and coordination is trained rather than inherited. The invitations published around Moline assume exactly that: Sacred Heart's Resurrection Choir asks for no prior choir experience, and First Lutheran prints an open invitation to all interested singers. What gets called talent is usually a childhood advantage, an ear trained young in a household that sang. Adults beginning at forty often move faster than they expect.
At any age, and this city publishes evidence at both ends of the range. Sacred Heart's Celebration Choir takes children in grades 3 through 8 and rehearses Mondays from 3:15 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., while the adult New Spirit Singers meet at the same address, 1307 17th Ave., in the evening. For children, six or seven is a reasonable start, with short lessons built on games and songs. Teenagers with a changing voice want a teacher who tracks the change. Retirees are a steady share of our students.
You will hear a change within a handful of lessons, mostly in breath control and in the ease of your middle range. A working voice, meaning one that holds a part through a rehearsal without tiring, generally takes six months to two years of weekly lessons with practice in between. A concrete horizon sharpens the timeline. The New Spirit Singers sing the 4:00 p.m. Mass on the first and third Saturdays from September through May, so counting back from a Saturday in the fall turns the question into a real number of weeks.
They work, and in a two-state region the reasons are concrete. Most ensembles here are named and organized regionally, and the addresses they publish sit on both banks: Monday rehearsals from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois, concert halls on the Illinois side and across the water in Davenport, Iowa. A lesson that lives on your screen takes the bridge, the parking and the fixed weeknight out of the arithmetic. You are also singing in your own room, which is where you practice anyway.

Moline sits on the Illinois bank of the Mississippi, one municipality inside a two-state region of five cities, with a population estimate of 42,362 as of July 1, 2025. The names of the region's music organizations show the organizing level: Quad City Symphony Orchestra, Quad City Choral Arts, Ballet Quad Cities, Quad City Music Guild - the last of them playing at 1584 34th Ave. in Moline. In the Quad Cities most adult ensembles are named for the region rather than the municipality, and the addresses published under those names largely sit on both sides of the river and in both states.
That regional level is old. The Quad City Symphony Orchestra dates from a meeting of musicians and citizens from Davenport, Rock Island and Moline on February 10, 1916. The Augustana Oratorio Society publishes Monday rehearsals from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois, and names community members among its singers. Quad City Choral Arts's own site did not resolve when we checked it on August 31, 2026, so its rehearsal night and address are not ours to state. A weekly rehearsal across a bridge or a state line is a different commitment than one four blocks away.
Start with what is published at a Moline street address. The New Spirit Singers at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1307 17th Ave., rehearse Mondays at 6:00 p.m. and describe themselves as open to women and men of all ages. A group like that works on blend: voices matching vowels, breathing together, handing a phrase across sections. That is section work, and it fills the rehearsal hour by design. Your registration break and your tendency to run short of air in the fourth bar stay invisible inside the blend. One-on-one is where they get diagnosed, because your teacher hears your instrument alone.
Published repertoire points the work somewhere specific. The New Spirit Singers take the 4:00 p.m. Mass on the first and third Saturdays, September through May: liturgical singing in a live room, unamplified. That asks for steady breath support, unhurried diction and a tone that carries. The Oratorio Society in Rock Island asks for long choral lines and the stamina to hold a part for two hours on a Monday evening. Lessons cover posture, breathing, resonance, range, sight-reading, and the mechanics of learning a part quickly.
SIRIUS teaches singing online and one-on-one. Each singer is paired with a teacher picked for her voice and her aim, and that same teacher stays week to week, so progress accumulates instead of restarting. Lessons run a full hour at $29, and the trial that opens the series is free, which puts the decision to keep going after the singing rather than before it. The lesson sits where your week has room rather than on a fixed weeknight.
The lesson travels by video, with audio tuned for singing rather than conversation, so the top of your range reaches your teacher intact. Every lesson can be recorded: the exercise demonstrated on Tuesday is still there on Saturday morning before a 4:00 p.m. Mass, at the tempo it was given. A laptop or tablet, a quiet room and headphones are enough.
Vibrant Arena at The MARK stands at 1201 River Drive in Moline, opened in May 1993, holding roughly 12,000 as an arena, or about 3,000 in its theater configuration. Centennial Hall, Augustana's 1,600-seat hall and one of the symphony's main rooms, is at 3703 7th Ave. in Rock Island, Illinois. The Quad Cities Waterfront Convention Center publishes a Bettendorf, Iowa address: 2021 State Street, opened January 24, 2009.
Three sorts of beginner are common in Moline. The first is a singer already in the room on Monday evening at 1307 17th Ave. who blends well but cannot yet hold a line alone when the section thins. The second is an adult reading the Oratorio Society's description, seeing the words community members, and wondering whether an untrained voice belongs there on a Monday from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The third sang at school twenty years ago, saw First Lutheran's invitation that all interested singers are invited to join, and wants preparation first.
Monday is the crowded evening. The New Spirit Singers rehearse at 6:00 p.m. in Moline and the Oratorio Society from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Augustana College in Rock Island, so a singer drawn to both faces one weekday evening in two cities. First Lutheran's PROCLAIM! choir rehearses Wednesdays; the hour is not published, so ask Steve Steely at (309) 764-3517. An online lesson has no address attached and no fixed weeknight. Book it early mornings, lunch hours or weekends, and move it when a rehearsal moves. MetroLINK's adult cash fare is $1.00, and Centre Station is at 1200 River Drive in Moline.
Your first hour with a SIRIUS teacher is free. You sing something you already know, the teacher listens to range, breath and registration, and you agree on what the next eight weeks should fix. If the target is a Saturday Mass at Sacred Heart or a Monday evening in Rock Island, say so in that first hour and the plan is built backward from the date.
Moline is its own city in a region whose musical institutions were built one level up and named accordingly. The consequence for a singer is practical: the ensembles carrying the region's name publish addresses in Rock Island, in Davenport and in Moline itself, while the rehearsals published with a Moline street address and a clock time belong largely to the churches, among them Mondays at 6:00 p.m. at 1307 17th Ave. A weekly one-on-one lesson fits underneath all of it, starts at $29 an hour, and is what makes the Monday rehearsal go the way you want.
