Singing is technique before it is talent, and technique answers to work. The first audible changes - steadier breath, a cleaner start to a phrase, a note that stops sliding - usually come after a few weeks of regular practice. How far you go from there depends on how often you practice between lessons, which is what the exercises in your SIRIUS Workspace are for.
No one is too late to begin singing: a private voice lesson lets you work on the range you already have, one-on-one, without singing in front of a group. For a child, a one-on-one lesson keeps all 45 minutes on one voice rather than on a room full of them.
Beginners need no prior experience at all. Every voice can be trained, and the first lessons are about breath, support and intonation rather than repertoire. Our coaches work with complete beginners as often as with experienced singers, and every lesson is built around your own voice and your own goals.

Yes. Singing is a trainable skill: breath, support and intonation all answer to practice, and you need no prior experience to start. True amusia, an actual inability to hear pitch, affects only about one person in seventy, and almost nobody who believes they cannot sing turns out to be one of them. The free trial lesson is the cheapest way to hear where your voice stands.
A private lesson and a group class do different jobs. One-on-one, every correction is about your voice - where the breath gives out, where the register changes - and all 45 minutes are yours. A choir or a class gives you what a lesson cannot: other voices around you, and the experience of singing on a stage. In Mesquite, women sing in the Half Notes and men in the Mesquite Men's Chorus, both community choirs on the city's concert calendar.
Most voice teachers start children at around seven to nine, when a child can hold attention for a full 45-minute lesson; the free trial lesson is where you and the coach find out whether yours is ready. Mesquite is served by the Clark County School District. The choir of Virgin Valley High School gave a spring concert in the school auditorium in April 2024, and in March 2024 Charles Hughes Middle School held a strings and choral music festival at the city's Rec Center field. Two community choirs, the Half Notes Women's Chorus and the Mesquite Men's Chorus, have appeared on the city's concert calendar in 2023, 2024 and 2026; in April 2026 they shared an evening titled 1940's Sentimental Journey with the handbell group Joyous Sounds Handbells.
The Mesquite Community Theatre has four programs on its fall 2026 schedule, from a retro concert in early November to a Christmas spectacular in December. In June 2026 its stage hosted two youth musicals, Seussical Jr. and School of Rock.
