The Merced Theatre opened on Main Street in 1931 and, after years standing dark, was restored and reopened as the Art Kamangar Center. It is the city's main stage. UC Merced arrived in 2005 and brought students, faculty and a growing arts calendar to a Central Valley town that had never had a university. Applegate Park holds the zoo and the summer crowds. SIRIUS Music School adds what is thin on the ground here: individual voice teaching, online.
Private teachers are scarce in this part of the valley, and the usual alternative is a drive to Modesto or Fresno. A coach on screen cancels that trip.
You get a teacher chosen for your voice rather than the only one within twenty miles.
Your coach starts with what is actually there, meaning range, breath, intonation and tone under strain, and shapes the sessions from that.
A church choir, a quinceanera, a campus ensemble audition: preparation is written for the particular job.
