Across the Willamette Valley a sixty-minute private voice lesson generally costs $50 to $90, with shorter lessons priced accordingly. Online lessons with SIRIUS sit inside that range, and nothing at all is charged for the first one.
Talent speeds things up; it does not decide the outcome. Singing is built from breath, pitch and resonance, and a coach who can hear which of the three is failing you can usually fix it faster than you would believe.
Children are usually ready at six or seven, when a short lesson still feels like play. Teenagers can and should keep training through a changing voice. In a university town like Corvallis, plenty of adult students arrive in their forties and later.
Two or three months of weekly lessons will already change how you sound to yourself. Singing reliably in front of other people usually takes closer to a year. The work never quite finishes, which is part of why people stay with it.
They do. Nothing in a voice lesson requires being in the same room; it requires being heard clearly and shown what to change. Students also practice more, because a lesson at home is far harder to talk yourself out of.

Corvallis is a Willamette Valley town built around a university, with Oregon State bringing more than twenty-five thousand students to a campus a few blocks from downtown. That produces an unusual amount of music for a city this size: four university choirs and a vocal studies degree on one side of Monroe Street, and on the other a 1913 vaudeville house, a 1922 theater rescued by its own nonprofit, and a community band that plays free in the park every Tuesday all summer.
Because you will find a place to sing within a week of looking. The Corvallis-OSU Symphony Orchestra, playing since 1906 and now based at the university's Patricia Valian Reser Center for the Creative Arts, fills its season with students, faculty, professionals and townspeople side by side. The Corvallis Repertory Singers audition adult voices from across the valley. The Whiteside Theatre on Madison Avenue reopened as a nonprofit and books touring acts into eight hundred seats. The Majestic on Second Street has been a stage since 1913 and is run by the city itself. And Bombs Away Cafe puts bands on a small stage up Monroe.
SIRIUS lessons are one to one, and the plan follows your voice rather than a syllabus. Your coach learns what it does under pressure, what it does when you are tired, and which of your habits are helping. From there the exercises are chosen, not looked up.
You start with the breath and the balance between air and tone. Then tuning, evenness across the range, and the ability to sing quietly without losing the note. Blend and sight-reading come next if you sing in a choir; stagecraft comes next if you do not.
