The entry on our price list reads $29 an hour to start, and we absorb the opening one. The figure covers one coach and one singer for sixty minutes, and it stays put: it does not shift with the month, with the grade a child happens to be in, or with whether the address sits inside the city limits. The booking changes you will want along the way carry no extra charge either. What you are buying is attention, which is the scarcest thing on that list.

Check the claim against the town. If you cannot sing, how did the Branch County Community Chorus come to admit people without an audition, and how did a summer company fill four productions in its 2026 season from the same population? The honest answer is that somebody listening properly is what most adults have gone years without; a trial lesson is one hour of it; and somebody listening properly is what fills that hour from end to end.

The workshop sorts children by grade; the fair sorts visitors by an age line; the chorus sorts by the start of a new concert series. Lessons sort by your calendar and no other. A child who can hold an instruction for a minute can begin, a teenager can work right through a voice change rather than sit it out, and an adult can start long after school with a coach who adjusts the exercise to what is actually audible. Registering for the Branch County Community Chorus runs through Kellogg Community College, which makes it a sensible place to put the hours to work once they have accumulated.

How long is a season here? September to May for the chorus, a calendar year for the opera house - and a voice keeps to the first of those: the air steadies before the holidays, the handover inside it quietens by spring, and reading waits for the year after. The standard booking is an hour each week, and thirty minutes is what a Tuesday already given to the chorus leaves room for.

What an online hour covers is exactly what the alternatives leave out. The transit authority wants notice ahead of the trip and publishes no minute of its own; the library shuts at 7:00 p.m.; the opera house opens its box office an hour before a performance. A lesson over a connection names its minute and holds to it. Sound moves both ways at once while you sing, and a recording cannot manage that. Whatever you join a video call with will do. The headset matters more than the computer. The shut door matters more than the headset.

The Census Bureau put 14,216 people in Coldwater for 2025 and 13,822 at the count on April 1, 2020. Two bodies in Branch County share the name: the city, and Coldwater township, which counted 3,859 for 2025 and is a separate government. Branch County was organized in 1833 and seats its courthouse here on Division Street. The township counted 3,406 at the 2020 census. A SIRIUS singing hour needs neither the county nor the township to agree on where a boundary runs before it can begin.
Kellogg Community College runs the Branch County Community Chorus on Tuesdays from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., September through May, in St. Mark's Episcopal Church, and the college publishes a $50 registration fee per semester for it, with no audition to get in. Three hours, once a week, in a group. That works until the thing you want fixed is specific to you, at which point a group rehearsal has no mechanism for it. An hour on its own does, and the two sit together on the same calendar.
Kellogg Community College runs its Grahl Center at 125 Seeley Street and opens it Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Friday until 4:30 p.m., which is ninety minutes short of the other four. For its 2026-27 schedule Kellogg Community College prices in-district study there at $141.50 per credit hour and adds $30.00 in fees, so its figure comes to $171.50. That is a seat in a cohort. SIRIUS replaces the cohort with one person who has heard your voice and remembers it from last week.
Kellogg Community College ran a wreath-making evening at the Grahl Center for $50 across two hours and a herb course for $40 across three, so the college's shorter class was dearer by the hour, and singing sorts the same way: reading, then tuning under pressure, then the handover inside your voice, and air behind those three, quick to describe and slow to own.
The Branch District Library opens its Coldwater branch at 10:00 a.m. on Monday and 9:00 a.m. from Tuesday to Friday, shuts at 7:00 p.m. on each of the five, and gives Saturday four hours against the ten it gives midweek. Then it closes and the week goes on without it. Where our scale starts is $29 an hour of teaching, with the opening one absorbed, and the hour stays on the calendar long after the branch has locked up. The recording of it and the written exercises stay in the same place.
Getting onto the Branch Area Transit Authority is easy and getting a departure out of it is not: its fares sit in three distance bands, from $1.30 inside the city limits to $2.50 for a trip over five miles, with a reduced figure in each band for students, seniors and children alike. Audio shaped so a sung phrase arrives at the far end intact: that is what the transit authority cannot match, and it is what a lesson over video is built around.
The Tibbits Opera House at 14 South Hanchett Street was built in 1882 to a design by Mortimer Smith; the Tibbits Opera Foundation and Arts Council, Inc. bought the building and both owns and runs it. The hall holds 499 seats. Its entertainment series put six dated evenings on the 2026 calendar at 7:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., the last two still ahead on November 21 and December 18, 2026, and its own summer company staged four productions, three of them musicals. The Tibbits Opera Foundation priced its Kids Theatre Workshop in June of 2026 at $150 for one session or $250 for both, and it priced the Popcorn Theatre & Workshops of that summer at $10 a performance with a $25 workshop beside one of them. The house carries National Register entry 100003577 from March 25, 2019, and has held Michigan State Historic Site status since December 11, 1970.
The Branch County Fair prints three admission rates and one sharp age line. The youth workshop splits by grade across three sessions: acting at 9:00 a.m. for grades 7-12, acting at 1:00 p.m. for grades 3-6, and stage technology in the afternoon for grades 7-12. The chorus takes new singers as a new concert series goes into preparation. Each of those draws a line somewhere, and a lesson sets no such boundary, because the thing it fits itself to is a single voice on a single Tuesday rather than a grade, a gate or an age line.
Coldwater Community Schools runs five schools across one attendance area, and a school calendar shapes a great deal of a family's week. A weekly hour is a commitment on that calendar you can move yourself, and moving it takes a tap. Shift it later when a rehearsal runs long, pull it earlier in exam week, drop one and add it back - from a phone, in the time it takes to read this sentence.
Measure it against the fair: three printed rates, one age line, a gate that opens on fixed days. A first singing hour has one rate and no gate. Pick a time, tell us a name, choose a song already in your repertoire, and run it once. You end up with a flat description of how your breathing and your tuning behave, which is more than a gate hands out.
There is a rule under the prices in this town: a printed single figure names the thing that sorts you into it, and the fair's three rates and the transit bands each carry theirs, while the Branch District Library prints a replacement range of $79.99 to $180 and names the model as the sorter without saying which model costs which. Our own figure is a single one, and the condition on it is an hour you keep.
