After the trial you and your teacher agree on a weekly slot. Every lesson runs 45 minutes, one-on-one and live over video, and the hourly rate starts at $29 in a monthly plan. You can move a lesson or switch teachers in the booking tool.
Piano is coordination before it is talent, and coordination answers to work. The first short pieces with both hands together - a melody in the right hand over a few notes in the left - usually come after a few weeks of regular practice. How far you go from there depends on how often you sit down between lessons, which is what the sheet music in your SIRIUS Workspace is for.
No one is too late to begin: a private piano lesson lets you work at the instrument you already have, one-on-one, without waiting for a group to catch up. For a child, a one-on-one lesson keeps all 45 minutes on one pair of hands rather than on a room full of them.
Beginners need no prior experience at all. Anyone can learn to play the piano, and the early lessons are about hand position, posture and reading both clefs rather than repertoire. Our teachers work with complete beginners as often as with advanced players, and every lesson is built around your own goals and the music you want to play.

In Quincy each piano route carries a condition of its own: the school course wants a place in grades 9 to 12, the college course an enrollment and a credit hour, and the Suzuki school a parent in the room and a group class alongside. An online lesson needs a keyboard and a free slot in the week.
Online lessons take the travel out of the week: no drive, no parking, and a slot that stays the same even when the rest of the week does not. Your teacher follows your hands and your posture on camera, stops you where a passage goes wrong, and works from the same sheet music you have open. If a teacher turns out not to fit, you switch in the booking tool.

A lesson is 45 minutes, and in a monthly plan the hourly rate starts at $29. Your trial lesson is free. A plan covers two, three or four hours a month on a three- or six-month membership; more hours and a longer term bring the hourly rate down. You can pause or adjust your plan at any time. The 2 piano prices we found in Quincy are both school prices: $20 for the high school's half-year piano lab, and a credit hour at the community college, which is what each of its 4 class-piano levels costs. The college's own fee page says $190 in district while its catalog still shows the 2025-2026 figure of $170. The nonprofit music school in town publishes no rate.
A keyboard is enough to begin on. What matters more than the number of keys is touch sensitivity: the keys have to answer to how hard you press, because that is how piano technique is built. Teachers widely treat 61 touch-sensitive keys as workable for a first year and recommend a full 88 weighted keys once you are a year or two in. Your teacher will look at what you have in the trial lesson.
Most piano teachers start children at around six or seven, once a child knows basic letters and numbers, can follow a simple instruction and can sit and focus for a stretch. Readiness counts for more than the birthday, and the free trial lesson is where you and the teacher find out whether yours is ready. Adults start with us at every age, and nobody is too late.

Quincy teaches piano in town at a high school, a college, a Suzuki music school and a private arts studio, so the 84.0 miles to Columbia, Missouri are not the question. Each of the 4 carries a condition - a slot in the school day, an enrollment, an adult who attends too, or a year of 10 monthly payments - and that is what a screen changes.

The city's own high school lists 19 music course numbers, and 1 of the 19 is piano: a half-year lab class with no prerequisite, open to students with or without keyboard experience, assessed 10 times or more across the semester and ending in a recital for classmates. 12 of the 19 ask for an audition instead. The course fee is $20.
The community college in town runs class piano in 4 levels, each worth 1 credit hour and each written for majors and non-majors alike, the first assuming no previous keyboard experience; its individual lessons need the department's consent. A nonprofit music school teaches harp, piano, violin and cello by the Suzuki method, with 4 teachers of whom 1 takes piano, weekly lessons of 30 or 45 minutes, and a parent sitting in on every one of them.
