After the trial you and your teacher agree on a weekly slot. Every lesson runs 45 minutes, one-on-one and live over video, and the hourly rate starts at $29 in a monthly plan. You can move a lesson or switch teachers in the booking tool.
Piano is coordination before it is talent, and coordination answers to work. The first short pieces with both hands together - a melody in the right hand over a few notes in the left - usually come after a few weeks of regular practice. How far you go from there depends on how often you sit down between lessons, which is what the sheet music in your SIRIUS Workspace is for.
No one is too late to begin: a private piano lesson lets you work at the instrument you already have, one-on-one, without waiting for a group to catch up. For a child, a one-on-one lesson keeps all 45 minutes on one pair of hands rather than on a room full of them.
Beginners need no prior experience at all. Anyone can learn to play the piano, and the early lessons are about hand position, posture and reading both clefs rather than repertoire. Our teachers work with complete beginners as often as with advanced players, and every lesson is built around your own goals and the music you want to play.

Keene has a private studio that teaches piano and voice and a college that gives piano lessons to its own enrolled students, and we turned up no shop selling pianos in the city. Fitchburg, Massachusetts, the closest city larger than Keene, lies 36.2 miles from it by straight-line measure. An online lesson happens at the instrument you practice on, so that distance never comes into it.
Online lessons take the travel out of the week: no drive, no parking, and a slot that stays the same even when the rest of the week does not. Your teacher follows your hands and your posture on camera, stops you where a passage goes wrong, and works from the same sheet music you have open. A lesson is 45 minutes, and in a monthly plan the hourly rate starts at $29. Your trial lesson is free. A plan covers two, three or four hours a month on a three- or six-month membership; more hours and a longer term bring the hourly rate down. You can pause or adjust your plan at any time. A private studio in the city teaches piano alongside voice but lists no price, and we found no published piano rate in Keene as of October 19, 2026.
A keyboard is enough to begin on. What matters more than the number of keys is touch sensitivity: the keys have to answer to how hard you press, because that is how piano technique is built. Teachers widely treat 61 touch-sensitive keys as workable for a first year and recommend a full 88 weighted keys once you are a year or two in. Your teacher will look at what you have in the trial lesson.
Most piano teachers start children at around six or seven, once a child knows basic letters and numbers, can follow a simple instruction and can sit and focus for a stretch. Readiness counts for more than the birthday, and the free trial lesson is where you and the teacher find out whether yours is ready. Adults start with us at every age, and nobody is too late.

Yes, and the reason is specific to the piano. A piano lesson is mostly listening, demonstrating and repeating, and none of that needs the same room. Your teacher follows your hand position and your posture on camera and can stop you mid-phrase, and the sheet music you work from stays open in your Workspace between lessons. Within Keene, we found piano taught at the state college for its students and at a private studio, while Manchester, New Hampshire, is 43.2 miles away in a straight line.

Keene State College offers piano as a degree subject, with one-on-one lessons for students enrolled there, and keeps a nine-foot Steinway concert grand in the Alumni Recital Hall of its Redfern Arts Center. A donor campaign at the college replaced eighteen aging pianos with Steinway and Steinway-designed Boston pianos. On campus, a faculty recital with piano on November 14, 2026 and a Steinway gala concert on February 7, 2027 are both open to the public.
Ashuelot Concerts, a chamber music series based in Keene, gives seven concerts at Stonewall Farm in the city between November 5, 2026 and June 11, 2027; five include the piano, and the March 12, 2027 program is a solo evening of Beethoven and Schubert sonatas. The Keene School District teaches strings at Keene High School and at four of its elementary schools. The Colonial Theatre opened in 1924 and came back after a renovation on April 1, 2022.
