After the trial you and your teacher agree on a weekly slot. Every lesson runs 45 minutes, one-on-one and live over video, and the hourly rate starts at $29 in a monthly plan. You can move a lesson or switch teachers in the booking tool.
Piano is coordination before it is talent, and coordination answers to work. The first short pieces with both hands together - a melody in the right hand over a few notes in the left - usually come after a few weeks of regular practice. How far you go from there depends on how often you sit down between lessons, which is what the sheet music in your SIRIUS Workspace is for.
No one is too late to begin: a private piano lesson lets you work at the instrument you already have, one-on-one, without waiting for a group to catch up. For a child, a one-on-one lesson keeps all 45 minutes on one pair of hands rather than on a room full of them.
Beginners need no prior experience at all. Anyone can learn to play the piano, and the early lessons are about hand position, posture and reading both clefs rather than repertoire. Our teachers work with complete beginners as often as with advanced players, and every lesson is built around your own goals and the music you want to play.

We found no piano teacher in Bangor who publishes lessons or prices online: one music store downtown sells pianos and lists no lessons, another teaches guitar, banjo, mandolin and fiddle, and the university keyboard course sits in a student catalog. The music school that runs youth bands here teaches piano one-on-one, but in person only in Portland, and otherwise remotely. Lewiston, the nearest larger city, is 85.3 miles away as the crow flies.

A plan covers two, three or four hours a month on a three- or six-month membership; more hours and a longer term bring the hourly rate down. You can pause or adjust your plan at any time. We found no published rate for piano lessons in Bangor, and the nearest music school we found that teaches piano in person is in Portland, 107.8 miles away.
A keyboard is enough to begin on. What matters more than the number of keys is touch sensitivity: the keys have to answer to how hard you press, because that is how piano technique is built. Teachers widely treat 61 touch-sensitive keys as workable for a first year and recommend a full 88 weighted keys once you are a year or two in. Your teacher will look at what you have in the trial lesson.
Most piano teachers start children at around six or seven, once a child knows basic letters and numbers, can follow a simple instruction and can sit and focus for a stretch. Readiness counts for more than the birthday, and the free trial lesson is where you and the teacher find out whether yours is ready. Adults start with us at every age, and nobody is too late.

The University of Maine in Orono, 4.4 miles from Bangor, gives private piano lessons to its own students, and non-majors there pay a fee and need an audition.

A music store downtown, whose website still carries a 2012 copyright, describes itself as an authorized dealer for two piano makers, Yamaha and Kawai, in acoustic and digital models. It also buys and sells used pianos, and its pages mention repairs and band-instrument rentals but no lessons. Husson University, in Bangor, has a three-credit Piano and Keyboard Basics course in its 2026-27 catalog, and its communications school lets students record in a studio with a Steinway grand piano.
The Bangor Symphony Orchestra plays all three concerts of its 2026-27 chamber series at the Gracie Theatre in Bangor; the one on February 1, 2027 includes Beethoven's Clarinet Trio, Op. 11, with piano. The orchestra also runs the Maine High School Concerto Competition for high school instrumentalists in the state. In the Bangor School Department, band and orchestra begin in middle school, and the high school arts academy has a music pathway that ends in a senior recital.
